Seven Resources We Couldn't Live Without

Lutheran Family Services of Colorado – Through LFSC, the African American Support group provided me respite care and a support network that gave me everything I needed as a long distance care provider and the strength to keep on during the four years I provided 24/7 care for mom at home. Nichelle Stiggers, a.k.a. St. Nichelle. Geriatric Care Manager extraordinaire! - www.lfsco.org

A Gourmet A Way – Every caregiver needs an angel, Chef Lisa was my very special angel providing delicious and nutritious meals throughout our caregiving journey. - www.agourmetaway.com

Easter Seal of Colorado –The Day Stroke Program was a blessing for us. It provided mom a much needed outlet for rehabilitation and comraderie with others who understood what she was going through. Warm water therapy was her favorite. - www.co.easterseals.com

Just Your Story – Part of my relief during my caregiving journey was creating story books. My favorite is entitled Choosing Hawaii over Hospice. It is the story and photos of moms’ dream trip to Hawaii. Part of my healing process as I mourn her loss is creating a book entitled, “My Pretty Mama” – The life story of Elizabeth S. Roberts. Check out this website to see how you too can create beautiful and amazing books to celebrate your loved ones or anything else you might have in mind. - www.justyourstory.com

Share The Care – For those of you like me, who hate the idea of asking for help, this site is a Godsend. It’s a wonderful concept that lets your support system know how they can help, without you having to ask. Create your very own Share the Care Team. - www.sharethecare.org

Caring Bridge – When mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer, this site allowed me to keep family and friends apprised of her status on a daily basis. Whether your family and network system is large or small,  it’s great to have a source that allows them to get daily, up to date information on your loved ones condition. - www.caringbridge.org

Elder Rage – The one book that made me believe that I could endure the challenges of caregiving. I laughed, I cried, I learned, I enjoyed. Jacqueline Marcell is phenomenal as she shares the amazing story of caring for two difficult parents at various stages of Alzheimer. I recently met Jacqueline and she is as wonderful as the book that she’s written. Thanks for the encouragement to move forward with The CareGiver’s Guardian. - www.elderrage.com
